Free Speed. Clean Bike = Fast Bike
Your body is the engine and the bike is the transmission. The cleaner and friction free the transmission, the more output gained from the engine. Go walk out in your garage and take a look at your chain and cassette. Is it dirty, sticky, and greasy? If your pant leg rubbed against your chain, would you have a nasty grease stain on your pants forever? What do you think that gunk does for your performance? It slows you down. Pedaling your bike for 100 miles is not easy. Why make it even more difficult pushing through grime and gunk while wearing down your bike components?
It makes no sense. Take 10 minutes each week to clean and lube your bike. It will last longer. Look prettier. And most importantly, work better so that you can get the most out of you - the engine.
There are lots of bike cleaners and lubes out there. We use a company called Muc-Off. Why? We love the system and their products work. It’s just too easy.
Spray down your bike.
Use the pink stuff and lather it up.
Wipe off the pink stuff and get the dirt off your bike.
Clean the brakes, and then cover them up.
Use the yellow stuff to spray and then brush your transmission.
Use the chain tool and clean your chain.
Spray it all off.
Take off the brake covers and let everything dry completely.
If you are riding in dry weather - apply dry lube. If it will be raining - apply wet lube. If you want the best in either condition - use Ludicrous AF lube. Wipe off the excess and let completely dry.
Go ride your bike.
It’s that simple. Watch the video, order some cleaning supplies, and make your bike shiny and new. We clean our bikes every 1-2 weeks depending on rides. During the 10-day 1,200-mile Tour Da yoop, Eh bike tour we clean and lube our bikes after each ride. It makes a world of difference!
